MonmouthpediA

So what is MonmouthpediA

William Gibson once said: “The future is already here — it's just not very evenly distributed”. In this case we are starting a project that is experimenting with what is possible. One of our most exciting projects is taking shape in Monmouth. The target is to make a “wiki-town”, covering the town with QRpedia codes linking to relevant multilingual articles. After starting off as a volunteer Wikipedian in Residence, John Cummings is now working full time as the Project Leader to make this happen, thanks to funding by Monmouthshire County Council and Wikimedia UK.

The new video (right) describes our objectives and shows some of the people involved. Volunteers have already written about 80 articles in English as well as contributions in Hindi, Danish, Czech, Welsh and several other languages.

The picture on the left shows Kellie Bierne, who is the Monmouthpedia lead for Monmouthshire County Council, during a VIP visit to the Wikimedia Foundation's San Francisco offices on 14th March.

There is a wikimeet/party on April 21 when we will be awarding prizes. Come and see Wikipedians scanning the 1,000 QRpedia codes and hopefully finding your contribution.
