Training

A grand day out! Gordo (talk) 20:41, 11 October 2012 (UTC)

Nine of Nine:

All the participants were new to editing, with one user having some previous web editing experience. The day started with exploring the expectations of the participants - they were not sure, some wanted to look at Parkinson's page on Wikipedia, or Parkinson's UK. The basic issues of editing were covered, including references and crating a new page. Then participants were working in their sandboxes. Conflict of interest was discussed too. It was felt that they went away being confident to do edit. Follow up message to be sent 1-2 weeks after the event.

The venue was sufficient for the event although there were minor problems: computers kept logging out, and there was not much room for the projector (so the image was quite small). All computers had wired internet connection, but wireless, although present, was unusable.

Feedback

Clare Allen from Parkinson's UK said: "I thought the training was really good. Doug really tailored his approach to our needs and it was great to have three volunteers on hand to ask all of our questions.

The main thing I took away was feeling reassured that we can ask for help from the Wikipedia community to improve our content. As we have a conflict of interest ourselves it was good to know that we could make suggestions and rely on the community to help improve the page."
