Hundreds to visit city next summer
Oxford will host a global conference next year bring together hundreds of people who contribute to the Wikipedia family of websites. The "Wikimania" conference is an annual conference focused on how to improve the websites and make them more accessible to potential users.
The first Wikimania conference was held in Frankfurt, in 2005, and since then have been held in Cambridge (Massachusetts), Taipei and Alexandria in Egypt.
A local team of volunteers put together a bid that beat competition from cities around world, including Amsterdam, Gdansk and Stockholm.

Based in San Francisco, California, the Wikimedia Foundation is an audited, 501(c)(3) charity that is funded primarily through donations and grants.[5]
Wikimedia UK is an independent non-profit organisation that is recognised by the Wikimedia Foundation as the local chapter supporting the aims of the Foundation. Wikimedia UK is registered in England and Wales under the name Wiki UK Limited and is an exempt charity.[6]
Wikimania 2010 will be held in Oxford. [7]
