Wikimania 2013 took place last week in Hong Kong and by all accounts was a great success. Congratulations to everyone who played a part in bringing together a global community of Wikimedians for such a useful and important conference!
Ahead of the conference one of our volunteers, Rock drum, spent some time with a few of the staff of the chapter to make a short video to show at the conference. We think Rock drum did a marvellous job – take a look below and let us know what you think.
This time next year Wikimania will be hosted in London. Keep an eye on this blog, and our wiki, for more information.
Very impressed with the video – it’s the most professional-looking one WMUK has done so far, so well done to all involved. Something went wrong with the subtitles when it was shown on the big screen in Hong Kong, so I don’t know what went wrong there.
I hugely enjoyed Wikimania: as always, Wikimedians are inspiring people to be around. While very grateful to the charity for the scholarship that allowed me to attend, I want to especially thank Jon Davies who spent an awful lot of time manning the Wikimedia UK stall, out in the hot sun. Jon exuded amazing positivity and energy, getting people to read our annual review and setting up conversations between like-minded volunteers. Although he had a lot of help from Katie the volunteer organiser and from us volunteers, he mucked in with a lot of un-Chief-Executively activity, not least lugging big bags of reports and biscuits around. A leader in the truest sense!
