Background
The aim of the project would be to further WMUK's main aim, open knowledge by ensuring that all wiki sites are fully accessible to those with disabilities.
Web accessibility is a pan-disability subject and should cover
- People with sight problems
- Hearing problems
- Mobility problems
- Cognitive impairments
When websites are accessible to these groups then people using older browsers and slow internet connections also benefit.
The RNIB (Royal National Institute of Blind People) is the leading charity offering practical support and information to anyone with a sight problem and has developed guidance to 'design and build accessible websites' which we propose to work from.
