Briefly describe the issue or problem that motivates this application. What needs are you meeting?

Information about commemorative plaques is often incomplete or completely unavailable. I hope that recording all the plaques in Cambridgeshire will not only address that issue but also allow for an analysis of the existing plaques. Who/what is getting commemorated? Who/what is not?

Describe project activities. What will you use the funding to do?

The project will entail recording all of the plaques for settlements in Cambridgeshire. It will only include settlements found in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_settlements_in_Cambridgeshire_by_population as including smaller settlements would make the project infeasible. I will take photos of all existing plaques and record basic data about them on Wikidata, ultimately using Wikishootme to make a map of all plaques in the county. In addition, I will create and organise a number of categories on Wikimedia Commons to make the plaque photos easy to find.

I will use the funding for travel costs which will allow me to take photos of plaques, record their coordinates and find plaques which have not been reported/recorded online. The estimated cost is roughly what the total travel costs (bus and train tickets) should add up to.

Evaluation will be based on content.

Identify key people involved in this project. How will or could the wider Wikimedian community be involved?

I don't have existing plans to include other editors/volunteers but there is definitely space for any Wikimedians based in Cambridgeshire to contribute.
