Project grant/The European Destubathon
Basic information
- Project Title (If applicable)
The European Destubathon
- Proposed by
- Dr. Blofeld
Project description
- Briefly describe the issue or problem that motivates this application. What needs are you meeting?
Wikipedia has over 3 million stubs. Europe and the UK have a lot of stubs needing expanding. Many articles haven't been touched in years.
- Describe project activities. What will you use the funding to do?
A one-month contest for April 2025, a destubathon (stub expansion contest to expand over 1500 bytes of readable prose) spanning all 44 European countries, including the UK. The Open Knowledge Association are putting up Amazon voucher prizes to cover all 44 countries, each topic and a main prize system. £250 from WMUK would allow us to give more of an incentive to work on the UK and help contribute towards boosting the overall prize amount. Estimated allocation of funds, but not final yet until I can fully work out a contest structure:
£100 - To boost the prize for most UK destubs £150 - To boost the overall prize fund for most destubs to hopefully attract more editors
- Describe your plan for evaluating this project. How will you measure success? What types of things will you measure (e.g. content, participants)?
We will set a target for 1000 articles. It is common for a few editors to produce a lot of the content, though the more the merrier. Success will be determined by how many articles are "destubbed".
- Identify key people involved in this project. How will or could the wider Wikimedian community be involved?
Dr. Blofeld is organising and running it by himself, but will contact many of the past contestants and regular contributors to his challenges to participate.
- If applicable, identify partnering organisations for this project (not essential)
The Open Knowledge Association (Switzerland-based), Women in Red.
- Estimated cost
£250
