Talk:Volunteer Strategy Gathering/November 2014/Data
This is the place to discuss the data which emerged from the Volunteer Strategy Gathering 1:
Demographics
Thanks for putting all of this together, Fabian! It's both interesting and useful, and I really appreciate the time and effort that went in to summarising and presenting it.
For all, I had a couple of thoughts while looking at the demographics data: there's a lot of focus on improving the gender gap, which I was really glad to see, but the ethnicity data also demonstrates a real concern with respect to the diversity of our volunteer community and there's much less of an emphasis on addressing this disparity. There's also a lack of information regarding the socio-economic background of WMUK volunteers: there's definitely a certain time and economic commitment involved in volunteering or contributing (in terms of equipment and cost of time spent), but it's not something that was covered at the last gathering and I think it could be a potentially important factor. I'm not sure what would be the best way to gather this type of information though - it's mainly just an abstract thought. Appreciate any responses! ACrockford (talk) 15:05, 16 January 2015 (GMT)
- Hmm, I was thinking about socio-economic background on the way back home last night. Perhaps A framework could be found in the Mike Savage and Fiona Devine study. I agree that ethnic diversity should also be addressed, any ideas? Fabian Tompsett (WMUK) (talk) 15:22, 16 January 2015 (GMT)
