Wikimedia in Wales

Welcome to Wikimedia in Wales, the home for improving content about Wales, from Wales, or in Welsh across all Wikimedia projects.

If you'd like to know more about what's happening in your part of Wales or if you're a Wales based organisation who'd like to engage with Wikimedia, then we warmly invite you to contact our Wales Programme Coordinator, Gemma Coleman at gemma.coleman@wikimedia.org.uk.

How do I find out what's happening in Wales?

Upcoming events in Wales and online

A full list of events across the UK can be found on the Events page.

Setting up an event

Meetups

We only have one member of staff based in Wales. So we're always looking for Wikimedians wanting to run meetups in their part of Wales. There's information about how to set one up online and we're happy to help and support as we can. Email Gemma at gemma.coleman@wikimedia.org.uk if you'd like help and support around this.

Sandbox sessions

Our community Wikimedians are a treasure trove of knowledge and skills. Some of them kindly share this with their peers in our Sandbox Sessions. See How to calmly edit in controversial areas and Using Duplicity: Create Missing Wikidata Items from Wikipedia as recent examples. If you have a Wiki skill you'd like to share with the community, email gemma.coleman@wikimedia.org.uk to discuss.

Something else?

Do you have an idea you'd like help with not listed above? Perhaps you're keen to do a Wiki Walk in your area using WikiShootMe or a guided tour using images from Wiki Commons to show what an area used to look like? Maybe you have a group of people who would like to learn how to edit Wikipedia or a topic you're passionate about and that you want improved on Wiki. If there's something you'd like to see not listed above email gemma.coleman@wikimedia.org.uk and we can get discussions started!

Past events and recordings

  • Celtic Knot 2025 was an online gathering in September 2025 for editors working in minority and minoritised languages. Recording available on the Meta page.
  • Our Trans + History week editathon was an in person editathon to improve coverage of notable Welsh Trans people and events. Read the post event blog about it.
