Meetings/2009-11-03/Agenda/Corporate Report
1) Been in touch with the Museums & Galleries and Libraries Show Organisers and (got basic show information) and spoke to organiser asking for a slot for Wikimedia UK as a speaker - pointed out the Wikimpedia Loves Art Britain Loves Wikipedia events we organise would have had dramatic impact on the show's clientele by next May after our Wikipedia/V&A event and that some museums would be keen to see us
2) Have a Learning Lunch Booked 3rd December - Kaizo PR - this is an opportunity to show and tell and explain to a leading digital agency how it would be best to work with us. They are heavy organisers of events in the social media space and there is a strong possibility that a sucessful Lunch will lead to a platform slot at some of these events. They also have a client roster that they would 'recommend us' in to if the event goes well
3) Have a Learning Lunch Booked November 23rd at The Hub Bristol - this is a social media and small business entrepreneurial site - that will mail out a flyer advertising us in advance of the event (WE NEED TO AGREE ONE)
4) Tate Britain - attended Tate Britain with Mike Peel (he will no doubt report) - content donation is a realistic possibility, strong interest in us (we represent 25% of all web traffic to Tate Britain already) - were comfortable with the notion of Backstage Pass approach - when it came to working with Wikipedians handling their content
5) MP visit - am in London TODAY - talking to Steve Pound MP (old friend) about how to access the murkier corridors of power in the cause and promotion of Wikimedia UK
6) Meeting with Science Bristol - they spoke about helping Wikimedia UK into the corridors of power within Bristol and said there were some 'wins' we could be associated with and perhaps core to - in terms of the potential for success. Arkive - is a BBC Natural History project starting to form around the idea of saving archive material on endangered species on some kind of website. He said that another organisation called Anchor and Bristol City Council's Digital Connectivity team - were trying to get the BBC Natural History to release its standard archives and have a home for them that could be 'perceived to be Bristolian' - their agenda is to create a landmark project around the Bristol BBC office that would encourage the BBC to keep the office in Bristol and not to move it to Cardiff.
Again - this would be more content, prestigious links with the BBC etc - this is why I am on a train as you discuss this as I travelling back with the Digital Coordinator of Bristol City Council
7) In the above meeting with Science Bristol also pushed the Schools Project - and the same contact said he'd try and get the BCC City Council Leader Barbara Janke energised on this and get her to back the initiative - watch this space for further details
8) Contacted the St Helena Tourism Authority PR team (Keane PR) and the lady is still on a boat approaching St Helena so no decisions on that front yet
9) Spoken to MP Roger Berry and MP Kerry McCarthy MP and both said they'd support us if we launched a schools initiative in Bristol
10)There is every likelihod that thenewly formed Bristol Social Media Group (BRISSM) will ask Wikimedia/Wikipedia to host one of their monthly meetings - which will be a forum for us to do an extended Learning Lunch Presentation (though this time in the evening)
