Outcome HP has agreed to sponsor the Global Fund Raising Event 14-16 May HP has persuaded The Watershed Partnership to co-sponsor the same event
The 3-day event will take place:
Friday in HP Campus Filton (just outside Bristol) Saturday/Sunday (centre of Bristol near floating harbour) at Watershed
All lunches are free courtesy of HP
HP are likely to pay for 'evening entertainment' for delegates on Friday night (TBD) Bristol City Council are likely to pay for 'evening entertainment' for delegates on Saturday night (TBD)
Purpose of these 2 night events is to provide a backdrop that is both convivial and engaging so any unfinished business discussion can take place and to be entertaining at the same time - so it is not in a rock & roll venue but somewhere where people can talk and relax at the same time
Still to be finalised - the evening events & costs of youth hostels, cheap hotels
Then all of the running of the event and liaison with both venues will be in the hands of Tango
Bloodhound SSC Project
Had an introductory meeting with Dr Richard Noble former world land speed record holder who is putting together another bid to do so. This time it is about engineering, and in particular about education - as they are linking up and involving up to 3,000 schools across the UK as part of the bid. Meeting went well. He knew nothing about us but was excited about the potential as part of the funding remit is for as much of this project as possible to be Open Source - therefore handing content to Wikimedia UK for our projects would be a certain objective for him.
Next steps
He will convene a second meeting at his HQ in west London for us to meet the team. They (prior to this meeting) will have a little think about how to share content and stay true to what they wish to do (break a 1000mph land speed record I believe).
At the second meeting we'll have the chance to move this forward and perhaps be closer to a channel for
a) Donations b) Possible access to a pool of volunteers that 'they' are building
