Microgrants/Shore Establishments of the Royal Navy
- Overview
To put it simply: 'Shore Establishments of the Royal Navy', by Ben Warlow. It is considered the definitive work about RN and RNR/RNVR shore establishments - a shore-based counterpart to the work known in nautical circles as 'Colledge'.
- Budget
£19.95 is the cheapest I can find, at [1] - this is still cheaper than Amazon's used section. As far as I can tell, this was not published in hardback. It would not be feasible to take this information from the British Library - it would either require one visit per article, or copying down large amounts of copyrighted text one visit at a time. A book is by far the cheapeast option.
- Timeline
I would likely need the book for several months, however, I attend most Wikimeets and maintain close contact with people. If I move to London, I would be quite happy to store it at the WMUK Offices, even while I'm using it. That way, it would be available to all who drop in. I would be able to report on the outcome after six or so months.
- Expected outcomes
Building all articles listed at List of Royal Navy shore establishments to stub class, and a good percentage to start class. This would tie in nicely with the Warship histories project that WMUK have with the National Maritime Museum.
- Who I am
I am Richard Symonds, and I am Wikimedia UK's Office Manager. I am based in Coventry, but hope to move to London. I am a member of Wikiproject Ships. I am in the Royal Naval Reserves and am quite good at things that float.
- Discussion
- Approved; sounds good to me. Would you be happy to buy this and claim back for it, or do you want us to order it directly? Thanks. Mike Peel 10:43, 8 November 2011 (UTC)
- Would prefer if you guys ordered it directly. The link above is the cheapest I could find, but if you can find cheaper, go for it. Chase me ladies, I'm the Cavalry 11:13, 8 November 2011 (UTC)
