Project Title (If applicable)
Aberdeen Wiki Meetup
Proposed by
Ian Watt

Project description

Briefly describe the issue or problem that motivates this application. What needs are you meeting?

I propose to start a monthly or bi-monthly Wiki Meetup in central Aberdeen. I have wanted to run one for some time, but only recently has our charity taken over a building which permits us to expand our range of activities. I have been promoting the idea with contacts at the University of Aberdeen, The Robert Gordon University and Museums, Galleries, Archives and Libraries at the local council, as well as active local editors and have received a positive response so far.

Describe project activities. What will you use the funding to do?

An informal regular meet-up, with coaching and mentoring of editors, identified local projects, and a democratic approach to selection of activities, as well as periodic editathons, and refresher training for existing editors, and introductory training for those new to WM platforms.

Describe your plan for evaluating this project. How will you measure success? What types of things will you measure (e.g. content, participants)?

Counts of attendees. Dashboards for editathons and projects. Possible hashtags for edits in the same way as Miki Wiki uses #wmuk

Identify key people involved in this project. How will or could the wider Wikimedian community be involved?

Ian Watt - approved WMUK trainer Seeking 'official' help from two universities Open to offers of help from the wider community

If applicable, identify partnering organisations for this project (not essential)

Code The City, Charity SC053447. Possibly: Aberdeen City Council, University of Aberdeen, The Robert Gordon University

Estimated cost

£250 for catering over 12 months
