Project description
- Briefly describe the issue or problem that motivates this application. What needs are you meeting?
The Feminist Library is home to a number of Black* feminist publications that either have no Wikipedia page, or its Wikipedia page is a stub. Since we have the material, we are perfectly placed to fill in these gaps and make knowledge about Black* feminist movements in the UK more readily available.
Many of these publications are from the era of political Blackness, and publications such as Mukti from this era specifically focus on Asian women.
- Describe project activities. What will you use the funding to do?
Collections coordinator to identify groups whose pages need updating and to gather the books and periodicals relating to them.
Coordinator to connect with local women's and history groups to take part in the events.
2 x Wikipedia editing training events (we are requesting a trainer from Wikimedia UK to provide this training) at 3 hours each, to introduce people to editing Wikipedia and get people started editing the identified pages. All hours paid at the London Living Wage.
- Describe your plan for evaluating this project. How will you measure success? What types of things will you measure (e.g. content, participants)?
This is focused on starting up people's ability and awareness around Wikipedia, so we'll focus on measuring how many people get trained up on editing Wikipedia.
- Identify key people involved in this project. How will or could the wider Wikimedian community be involved?
Staff at The Feminist Library, our volunteer pool and women in South London. The two events will be open to everyone.
- If applicable, identify partnering organisations for this project (not essential)
