Wikimedia UK's draft strategic framework for 2022 - 2025

Thank you to everyone who attended our community meeting in November to discuss Wikimedia UK's strategy for 2022 - 2025. My blog post about the meeting, summarising the input from participants, is here. The draft strategic framework is now open for comments until 8th December here.

Please feel free either to add comments, questions or suggested changes directly to the document, or to add your feedback to the Talk page.

We would be particularly keen to hear your thoughts on the following:

1. What's missing from the draft strategy from your perspective?

2. To what extent do you agree with the three proposed strategic themes:

  • Knowledge Equity
  • Information Literacy
  • Climate Crisis

3. To what extent do you agree with the five strategic pillars:

  • Equity, diversity and inclusion embedded across the organisation
  • A thriving national and international community
  • Public profile and recognition of the organisation and Wikimedia projects
  • A positive legislative environment
  • Organisational resilience and sustainability

Please note that this is an early draft which is being shared with the community at the same time as the staff and board of the Chapter. Nothing is written in stone and your comments will be taken on board; although we are unlikely to be able to incorporate all feedback into the final draft. Please also note that this currently just includes the headline aims for the three strategic themes which have been identified. It doesn't include the work that we will be prioritising under our five strategic pillars. Annual objectives and specific activities/outputs for these pillars will be identified through our more detailed annual delivery planning.

With many thanks in advance for your feedback and input.

Chief Executive of Wikimedia UK

Strategy meeting 2022-2025

We would like to warmly invite you to our meeting on Tuesday 9th November from 3-5pm to explore the future strategy of Wikimedia UK and discuss how the chapter can best serve its community. Our Chief Executive, Lucy Crompton-Reid, will be facilitating the call but there will be other staff and trustees attending, including our new Chair, Monisha Shah. This is a key opportunity to help shape the future direction of Wikimedia UK, and I would love to see as many contributors there as possible.

The draft agenda for the meeting is as follows:

  1. Welcome and introductions
  2. Welcome to Monisha Shah, Chair of the Board
  3. Overview of process for developing our next three year strategy
  4. ‘Wouldn’t it be fantastic if...’ Working in groups then feeding back
  5. Focus on community: How can WMUK best serve volunteers?
  6. Reflection on the key strategic themes emerging so far
  7. Wrapping up

As part of the process of developing our next three year strategy, we have held away days with the board and staff team. From these discussions, the following key themes have emerged, which we believe should be core to our programme development and delivery over the next three years:

  • Knowledge Equity
  • Information Literacy
  • Climate Crisis

Underpinning all of our delivery are a set of (draft) strategic pillars, which we believe will help us to achieve the change we want to make in the world. These core foundation themes are:

  • Community
  • Advocacy
  • Communications
  • Equity, Diversity and Inclusion
  • Organisational resilience and sustainability

Please sign up by adding your name below, with a link to your talk page or an email address, or contact us at info@wikimedia.org.uk.
