Wiki editing vs. membership

As a newbie myself, I was only recently confused by this. As I understand it, it is possible (indeed, with SUL, easy) to edit this wiki, to correct spelling mistakes, comment on initiatives, discussions etc. - there is no need to join first. Obviously, new wiki editors can be welcomed and then bombarded with advice about joining ad infinitum (they wouldn't edit the wiki unless they were at least partially interested in WMUK!). So it's probably worth making it clearer that you can edit without being a member first? Jarry1250 09:03, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

I think that it's been fairly obvious up to now that people can join in discussions etc. about the chapter without being a member, as open discussions on the mailing list have been going on for a lot longer than the chapter in its current incarnation has existed. For new people finding the chapter discussions for the first time, though, this is definitely something that we should highlight. Mike Peel 13:19, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
I would have joined by now if it wasn't for the fact of having to print out, fill in and mail a paper form. If I could do it online you'd have me. --Bodnotbod 15:34, 3 September 2009 (UTC)
I raised this at the last board meeting, and it appears that it will be looked into. In the meantime I'm sure they could sort out something for you pro tem. Maybe email your details, wait for your application to be approved, then donate the right amount? Just a thought. Jarry1250 15:55, 3 September 2009 (UTC)
If we get a proper fundraising website set up (I started one, shouldn't be too difficult to finish it) it shouldn't be difficult to add a membership form to that. --Tango 18:51, 3 September 2009 (UTC)
I've donated my £6 (I qualify for concessions). I may contribute more if I find myself with some cash. I did consider holding off as an encouragement to develop the web form, but it felt a bit mean :o) --Bodnotbod 15:28, 5 September 2009 (UTC)
