Summary
In Spring 2017, Dr. Lalita Murty, Lecturer, at the Norwegian Study Centre, University of York, introduced Wiki page editing as part of the final assessment for her course titled ‘The ELF in the room: English as a Lingua Franca’. Students read and wrote summaries of two articles on the topic in the first stage of the assignment. In the second stage, they worked together using their respective summaries to create a short section titled Globalisation and ELF to add to the Wikipedia pages on English as Lingua Franca.
The students found the editing task very rewarding and commented that the task had improved their critical reading and writing skills and referencing skills”.
A new Wiki editing task will be given as part of the final assessment once again in Spring 2018.
