The below press release was sent to local media in the Coventry area on Thursday 29 March.
Wikipedia comes to Coventry
A Coventry museum welcomes the world's largest online encyclopedia this weekend as Wikipedia comes to the city on Saturday 31 March.
The Herbert Art Gallery & Museum in Jordan Well, Coventry and Wikimedia UK are hosting a Wikipedia Edit-a-thon on Coventry's history and they are keen for local residents to share their local knowledge with the rest of the world.
Whether you're interested in Lady Godiva, medieval architecture, the Coventry Blitz or anything else at all, you can drop in to the museum from 10am on 31 March and learn how to share your knowledge on Wikipedia.
Harry Mitchell, a Coventry resident and Wikimedia UK volunteer, said: “This event is the latest in the exciting partnership between Wikimedia UK and the Herbert - a relationship we are keen to continue in order to improve Wikipedia's coverage of Coventry and its history.”
The event is free and open to all and there will also be a guided tour of the museum's Wonderful Watercolours exhibition.
Erin Hollis, Project Assistant for Herbert 2.0, said: "We've found working with Wikimedia UK to be a valuable way to share our collections and help improve Wikipedia articles related to Coventry and the history of the city.
"We can reach such a wide and diverse audience through the website which in turn encourages people to visit the museum to see the collections in person."
You can sign up for the event and get more information on the event page.
