When: Monday 4 July 2011
Where: BBC Broadcasting House, Whiteladies Road, Bristol BS8 2LR: ask at reception for the Wikipedia event.
What: A day event where people can learn about Wikipedia and its sister projects, including how to contribute.
Hosted by: The BBC Anchor Project and Wikimedia UK

Aims

In March, Bristol Wiki Academy 1 gave an overview of Wikipedia and its related projects, and how they could benefit the community. This event was focused on training participants to be active and confident participants in the global Wikimedia community.

Attendees would:

  1. Get an overview of the Wikimedia projects
  2. Gain hands-on experience of Wikipedia editing, writing about any subject they like
  3. Learn a variety of ways to improve, and benefit from, the Wikimedia projects
  4. Learn about the range of work done by Wikimedia UK
  5. Discuss how we can encourage others to benefit from, and contribute to, our mission to make knowledge and culture freely accessible to the world

Attendance at this event counted toward recognition as a Wikipedia Ambassador.

Guests were advised to bring a laptop computer (or iPad or tablet) and a any book at all that would interest them.

A small number of places were available on a first-come-first-served basis.
