Abstract/Crynodeb

Wikimammenn is the Wikisource in Breton language. It only has less than 5 active contributors bit in 8 years, they gathered 6600 texts of around 300 books in Breton. Wikisources are both a challenge and an opportunity for small languages. A challenge as finding, collecting and curating texts in the public domain (or compatible free licenses) is quite difficult. But a chance as - with the right structures - transcription can be easy and is even accessible if you don't know well the language.

I will take the example of the Breton Wikisource, but as a Wikisorceror for 12 years I'll also tell about experiences from other languages, what worked and what didn't. How to use and adapt goals and tools to make manageable to transcribe hundreds of pages of a books and most importantly how to hasten slowly and find the right pace.

Mae Wikisources yn her ac yn gyfle i ieithoedd bychain. Mae’n her gan fod darganfod, casglu, a churadu testunau yn y parth cyhoeddus (neu drwyddedau rhydd cymathadwy) yn anodd. Mae’n gyfle, er hynny, gan fod trawsgrifio yn gallu byd yn hawdd os oes gennych y strwythurau cywir, ac yn bosib cael ato hyd yn oed os nad ydych yn adnabod yr iaith yn dda. Byddaf yn defnyddio enghraifft Wikisource Llydaweg, ond fel gweithiwr Wikisource ers 12 mlynedd, byddaf hefyd yn dweud wrthych am brofiadau o ieithoedd eraill, beth weithiodd a beth wnaeth ddim gweithio. Sut i ddefnyddio ac addasu amcanion, ac offer i hwyluso trawsgrifio cannoedd o dudalennau o lyfrau, ac yn fwyaf pwysig sut i gyflymu yn araf a darganfod y cyflymder iawn.

Hello! My name is Nicolas VIGNERON. I'm a wikimedian for more than 14 years now. I'm involved both in editing the Wikimedia projects and helping in the community. Among others, I actively participate in Wikisource and Wikidata. I speak several languages including French and Breton; I’m convinced that the more languages there are in Wikimedia projects, the closer we get to the vision of sharing the sum of all knowledge and to achieve Knowledge equity.
