Office Manager/2010 Advertisement
Job Title
Part-time Office Administrator
About Us
Wikimedia UK is a not-for-profit association set up to promote and support Wikipedia, its sister projects, and other open educational resources in the UK . "Open" content refers to information which is available for copying, reuse and modification, including for commercial uses, without cost or restriction other than attribution. We were established in 2008 and are one of around thirty similar associations in countries around the world. We work with museums, universities, businesses and media companies to make more freely licensed content available via Wikipedia and similar projects, and to help other people re-use content from Wikipedia. We seek to have a close relationship with other open content organizations in the UK, and with the community of Wikimedia readers and editors.
Job Description
The main role of the office administrator is to provide administrative support to Wikimedia UK for events, meetings and other administrative duties involved in the day-to-day running of the organization. Due to the current size of Wikimedia UK (which consists entirely of volunteers at the present time), the successful candidate will be working from home.
The kind of tasks that will be performed include (but are not limited to):
- supporting projects, e.g. by booking venues, obtaining quotes or communicating with partner organisations
- supporting board administration, e.g. minute taking, following up actions and writing reports
- supporting membership and financial management: assisting the processing of member applications and expense claims, and with updating accounts
- Communicating internally and externally, e.g. writing newsletters and blog posts, responding to emails, maintaining the Wikimedia UK wiki
Most of the tasks can be completed at a time of the day at any location convenient to the individual. However, some tasks require attendance at meetings or availability during business hours. Occasional tasks may require attendance at an event location (for which travel will be reimbursed).
The successful candidate will report to the Chair of the Board of Trustees, Andrew Turvey, on a day-to-day basis. Most interactions will be with the Board and with external organizations.
