Some questions we need to consider
We need to give some serious thought to what we actually want this booklet to achieve. I'm of the view that we don't yet have enough clarity on these points to be able to take this booklet forward in a satisfactory way:
- Who is the booklet's audience?
- What are the outcomes we want it to achieve for us?
- What do we want people reading the booklet to do?
These may seem obvious questions but I don't think these have properly been answered. They are all crucial in setting the tone and style of the content, the framing of any appropriate examples and guidance. Until we answer these questions properly and thoroughly we are at something of an impasse. Stevie Benton (WMUK) (talk) 10:48, 1 October 2013 (UTC)
- Hi Stevie, thanks for the feedback. Re your first two points as the opening paragraph says "The purpose of the book is to be a physical handout for people in the Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums sector that introduces them to GLAM and Wikimedia, makes the case for the two to work together and gives some varied examples of cooperation between organisations.." We could make the booklet more narrowly UK focussed by making all or almost all of the examples UK ones, but my view is that GLAM people are not so parochial and that a proportion of really good non UK examples would make the document stronger rather than weaker. As for your third point, I'm hoping that all the various case studies and examples will inspire people to do similar things in their institutions. The back cover will reinforce that with a call to action, and I'm now adding a first draft of that. Jonathan Cardy (WMUK) (talk) 16:10, 2 October 2013 (UTC)
