Wikimedia UK Annual Conference 2012[edit]

I'm writing to let you know that WikiConference UK 2012 is coming up, on Saturday 12 May 2012, in London. Some time ago you indicated that you are interested in attending the event. If this is still the case please help us in planning for the event by registering at http://donate.wikimedia.org.uk/wikicon12. The conference will incorporate both presentations and talks about Wikipedia/Wikimedia, as well as Wikimedia UK's Annual General Meeting. It is free to attend. If you have any questions please contact Daria Cybulska on daria.cybulska@wikimedia.org.uk or 0207 065 0994. Hope to see you there! Richard Symonds (talk) 15:08, 27 April 2012

Metrics on WMUK[edit]

Hi Steve, I am sorry to say that the metrics I set up don't actually work. I was aware of how they worked on WikiPedia for some time, and then stumbled on how to do them on WikiVersity. I tried some of the more obvious links, and even got WikiPedia Ukraine at one stage (the UK refers to their language). It may be that the system has not been set up to include WMUK, or perhaps this has been done, but if so, I am afraid I don't know how to get it working. You might be able to get better advice from one of the technical people at the Foundation. They might even know how to get the service extended to WMUK if it is not already linked in. Bullet points[edit]

  • [1] (focus on the empty line]

MediaWiki software quirk: to make a level-2 bullet point, one needs to leave no blank lines between the level-1 bullet point line and the level-2 bullet point line. Alternatively, use the colon, because the indent has the same width as the bullet. Deryck Chan (talk) 19:11, 24 August 2012 (UTC)

Thanks Deryck, that's really helpful. --Stevie Benton (WMUK) (talk) 12:41, 26 August 2012 (UTC)

Risk suggestion[edit]

Hi, could you take a look at Talk:Risk Register and pick up on Lexein's suggestion? Cheers -- (talk) 15:45, 21 September 2012 (UTC)

Nov Report[edit]

I expanded on the tech stuff a bit, I hope this is OK? :) Happy to spend 10 minutes each month summarising what has been done etc. if that's helpful. --ErrantX (talk) 15:30, 2 January 2013 (UTC)

That's excellent, thank you! Always looking for more contributions! --Stevie Benton (WMUK) (talk) 15:36, 2 January 2013 (UTC)

Image copyright?[edit]

Hi Stevie. Please could you clarify where File:Tonisant.jpg has come from, and which license it's available under? Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 17:49, 7 March 2013 (UTC)

Hi Mike. The image was sent to me by Toni himself. I haven't added it to Commons or added license information because I do not know if permission exists and I don't want to make an assumption. It';s used in a blog post which goes live tomorrow. Thanks. Stevie Benton (WMUK) (talk) 17:52, 7 March 2013 (UTC)

Letter[edit]

Hi Stevie, I got reference about you that you might be the best person to help me. I am planning try to get access to catacombs under London and I need to send email to Camden Historical Society and it will be fine use official WMUK email. Therefore can you please send the second letter for Camden Historical Society and provide official email of WMUK (and please, let me know if there will be some answer, or I can fill it just give me some address of WMUK which I can use for it). The form for it is here. Thanks and best regards --Chmee2 (talk) 14:44, 4 April 2013 (UTC)

Hi Stevie, don't you have some update from Networkrail about the catacombs? Regards --Chmee2 (talk) 13:33, 16 April 2013 (UTC)

Hi Chmee2, I don't really beyond what I already did. I emailed Network Rail last week and they will get back to me with any information when they have it. I'll then pass it on. Thanks :) Stevie Benton (WMUK) (talk) 13:37, 16 April 2013 (UTC)

This Month in GLAM: April in the UK[edit]

Hello Stevie Benton (WMUK), You have written before for the newsletter This Month in GLAM. I see the UK is missing regarding the edition about April 2013, do you perhaps have any idea what GLAM activities were done in the UK in April? Can you perhaps write about those? Or do you know who I can ask to write about it? Thanks! (Deadline of the April edition is 8 May.) You can start writing at the page outreach:GLAM/Newsletter/Newsroom. If you wish to be informed by e-mail next time, please write me at this page. You can reach me the best at nl-wiki talk page. Greetings - Romaine (talk) 08:03, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

PS: Certainly also about GLAM-WIKI in London would be nice to read about that. Romaine (talk) 08:18, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
Hi Romaine, Stevie's not around at the moment and I've only just noticed your message since Monday was a bank holiday in the UK. The deadline on the page you linked to is 18:00 UTC so I'll try to get something in place before then. Richard Nevell (WMUK) (talk) 17:14, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

Appeal for help[edit]

Stevie,

I am working on the assumption that certain people from The Signpost will gleefully twist my comments directed towards Jimmy into another "hatchet-job" editorial; prime suspect being someone who openly states he is, 'offended by my existence'.

I've had around eight-hours sleep since Sunday, and I know rather more than I should about the political machinations originating with the project's most-shrill critics. Since I'm stuck in meetings — and, supporting a vital presentation to one of our tier-one telecomms clients tomorrow — I can't properly investigate the 'obvious meatpuppetting', such would be far more-credible if coming from someone uninvolved, and not — as I have been — subjected to libellous accusations of being a 'fascist'.

I certainly do not want this nonsense, a discussion I sought to start in-earnest, used to troll the hell out of Wikinewsies and bring the project's article production to a complete halt. --Brian McNeil / talk 23:34, 21 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi Brian, thanks for your message. Forgive me but I'm not entirely sure what you're asking me to help with. Please do drop me a line here, or via email, so we can discuss and I can be a little clearer. Please note that I'm around today but then on annual leave (we get a couple of days each year, don't tell anyone) from Friday, returning on Wednesday 28 August. Blog post typo[edit]

Hi Stevie. Just a quick note to say that there's a typo in the figure caption in the latest blog post - "A photo form the event". Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 15:54, 2 December 2013 (UTC)

Thanks Mike, all sorted. Appreciate the heads-up. Stevie Benton (WMUK) (talk) 16:10, 2 December 2013 (UTC)
