Aim

It would be useful to start with the aims of the session. i.e. if we hope to tackle taxonomy, then it would be useful to use category tools. Also as the TNA has previously uploaded photos, then work on Commons would be good. If there is a prospect of documents being uploaded, maybe Wikisource is relevant. And of course there is always Wikidata. Maybe we could have a general session to start with, and then break up into smaller groups.

Also as editathons have proved to be useful for providing attendees with a better grasp of Wikipedia, they are generally ineffective at recruiting editors. In terms of adding material to WP, sometimes I think that if trainers spent the time used travelling to an event and delivering training just staying at home editing, they would add more bytes to WP. Thus measuring the bytes added can be misleading if it does not take into account the opportunity costs.

That said, editathons are fun!

Personally, I feel that it would be useful if attendees opened an account before the session and if we had a clearer idea of their role at TNA. Leutha (talk) 09:21, 18 September 2015 (BST)
