Wikipedia at NIMR
The Medical Research Council's National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR) hosted a Wikipedia training event on Thursday 13th November 2014, with trainers from Wikimedia UK.
The event was open to all NIMR staff, and others by invitation. It took place in the NIMR library (The Ridgeway, Mill Hill, London NW7 1AA).
This event followed on from a Women in Science editathon hosted by NIMR in 2013, and past training events hosted by the Medical Research Council.
- 11.00 Introduction to Wikipedia/Wikimedia and basic editing (experienced editors are welcome to take a refresher)
- 13.00 Lunch
- 13.45 Editing with trainers on-hand to give individual help

The ten trainees present included eight women and two men.
- One user had to leave early and we do not yet have his username
It was left up to participants what to edit, but the suggested themes were:
- Biographies of women scientists
- Biographies of scientists who have worked at NIMR
- Improving Wikipedia articles in one's specialist area
- Hilda Margaret Bruce
- Marjorie Mussett As well as expanding the article, a participant noticed that a cited source was about the wrong person, and flagged this error on the Talk page.

- Talk:AMP-activated protein kinase One participant was a scientist who had published a structure for this protein that was more up-to-date than the structure in the article.

- A userspace draft article was created about the Hertfordshire Cohort Study
- The Wikidata node about the National Institute for Medical Research was also edited.
- File:John_Herbert_Humphrey.jpg was uploaded to Commons.
- Eleven protein structure images from the Open Access journal Nature Communications have been uploaded to Commons, in commons:Category:Media from Nature Communications, for use in improving the AMP-activated protein kinase article. This is the first time images from this journal have been shared on Commons.
