Talk:Teaching Translation via Wikipedia

Dear All, I am happy that the project page of “teaching translation via Wikipedia” is growing fast now. At Durham University, I with colleagues are keen to expand our work on Wikipedia and organise it to become a research project which aims to explore and study the value and impact of using Wikipedia as a translation platform on enhancing the performance of our students. We found that our students got more motivated to work with Wikipedia articles and translate them into their target language. Many articles have been already translated and published on the Arabic Wikipedia by my students. Now, I don’t want this project to be limited to English/Arabic pair but to include all different programmes of Translation, leading to enormous expansion of knowledge that is disseminated by Wikipedia with the contribution of translation students from all over the world. I can see from colleagues who joined this page recently that we can have expertise and good experiences from various universities, working with different pairs of languages, which would enable us all to build a strong network through which we can share practices and exchange new ideas. Did you notice Wikipedia allows for Computer Assisted Translation? if you want to try the gadget, please go to Preferences|beta features AND CLICK ON content translation.
