It would be nice to have a link to a page describing how the donations are used, what wikipedia's financial target is et al. (i.e. along the lines of previous fund-raising campaigns). 81.135.51.99 16:17, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

I have donated only one pound. However I think if everyone just donate at least one pound it would be a big amount of money. It is wise to say that please do not give a lot of obligation to users. We are not sure whether every penny will be allocated into the right pocket as I, myself, could only afford £1.29 double cheese burger for dinner.
Thank you for donating to Wikimedia UK. All donations will be used in accordance to UK charity law - although we're not yet a charity (we're a non-profit organisation in the process of applying to be a charity), we do our very best to follow all charity laws and guidance in our activities. All donations are spent on supporting either the global Wikimedia movement (via the Wikimedia Foundation) or the movement within the UK (see 2011 Budget amongst other pages). We endeavour to be as transparent an organisation as is practically possible (e.g. our board minutes are published openly online). We're grateful to receive all comments on our activities via our public mailing list or on this wiki, and we're always willing to answer any questions you might have. Thanks. Also, last time around, there was a link which showed a list of all people who donated, with encouraging comments from them alongside. I guess having such a list will inspire more people to donate. - Thanks, Mahesh

Funding requirement for Wikipedia

When I access and receive advice from someone on a forum I often think if I was in face to face contact with this person I would be only to happy to buy them a drink. In the UK thats about 3 GBP. Often only some of the people who help on forums have a Paypal button, so my good intentions can only be actioned on those that do provide the button. I may be wrong, but I can't recall that Wikipedia my most often accessed source of information has a Paypal button. On reflection I would be buying the Wikipedia contributors several drinks a week! Unfortunately, I can't afford that, even though I own and manage several websites, currently at a loss.

As a convenient reminder that even a free service is not free as someone has to pay for providing a service I think that a Paypal botton or similar fund collection service button(s) could be placed on Wikipedia websites. I would also like to suggest that the depth and scope of Wikipedia is presented more often. Give us the stats and information of the service which provides free access to information for those who speak a different language.

I'll Second that, More stats on site usage and maintained costs .

Fix the payments process

The pages are served over https but only partially encrypted ... this represents a serious security risk 87.194.40.167 21:56, 18 July 2011 (UTC)

This has been fixed (and has been for a while now, I believe). Chase me ladies, I'm the Cavalry 00:33, 4 December 2011 (UTC)

Comment

Please could you show the amount of the donation on the Thanks page? This would then act as a receipt from Wikipedia. Alternatively, please could you provide a link to a separate receipt page for that donation? Thank you.81.99.104.50 20:33, 3 December 2011 (UTC).

It's a little tricky to do technically, but one of our plans is to start moving some parts of the database to be publicly viewable - for example, we wouldn't allow people to access who has donated, but we would allow them to access how much has been donated in total in a particular month, or on a particular day. It might be possible to give receipts in the same way, but I'd want to make sure it was 100% secure before we start doing so.
A better idea is for us to start sending 'thankyou' emails more often. Our system allows us to do this at the moment, but isn't set up to do so automatically. Getting it to send out thankyou emails (which also act as receipts) automatically is on the top of my list. Chase me ladies, I'm the Cavalry 00:40, 4 December 2011 (UTC)

Gift Aid Declaration without donating again?

Hi, I donated using the link on the left on the main Wikipedia page. No mention of Gift Aid until after I'd donated on this Thanks page. Post donating how do I now add my Gift Aid declaration without donating again? edit: Just checked and it appears declaration link is broken as it redirects to standard donate page?

Hmm, yes, good point. I will see if we can put a link to a plain Gift Aid form on the fundraiser pages we are using. In the meantime you can Make a gift aid declaration here. Many thanks, The Land 16:43, 27 December 2011 (UTC)
