Wikipedia page?
Would it be useful to have a Wikipedia page for events like this? Leutha (talk) 10:43, 11 March 2014 (UTC)
- Yes. If created as part of a wikiproject/Commons project page there would be a much better chance of virtual participation by volunteers not otherwise connected to the UK Chapter. --Fæ (talk) 11:06, 11 March 2014 (UTC)
- It has been a month. Was there a reason that we like to stick to the chapter wiki? --Fæ (talk) 14:10, 14 April 2014 (BST)
- It's a Wikimedia UK event that is taking place in the UK. So my view would be that this wiki would be a natural location for it. Having it here doesn't prevent links being posted on Wikipedia/Commons/etc. in exactly the same way that a local page could be linked to. Encouraging virtual participation would definitely be good though! Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 23:05, 14 April 2014 (BST)
- One reason is that just because someone enjoys regularly contributing on the English Wikipedia and would like to join a UK based edit-a-thon (virtually or in person) does not mean they would want to set up a special account on this independent website just to add themselves to the registration page. It creates an unnecessary barrier for an event that has objectives squarely defined by en.wp contributions. In fact we have had many past successful edit-a-thons where the registration and project pages were on en.wp. --Fæ (talk) 23:41, 14 April 2014 (BST)
- Fæ, I'd be rather more worried that there is no obvious way to register for this event here! It's trivial to set up an account here, so that shouldn't provide a major barrier - and indeed, it should be easy enough to sign up here by providing a link to an enwp account, or to sign up anonymously. We've had many past successful editathons and past events that have had project and registration pages here too! Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 00:19, 15 April 2014 (BST)
